Wallet-based OCD - Nathan
It has recently come to my attention that not everybody handles their paper money the same way I do. In the name of Dubious Data Collecting, a poll:
How do you handle your currency (bills)?
I keep bills flat (or folded together).
I keep bills together by denomination.
I sort bills by denomination.
I keep bills facing the same way.
I keep bills the same way up.
I'm sure there are other semi-obsessive habits one can have about cash. Discuss them here!

So, if I only have one hand free when putting the money away, I may skip some of these steps.

But do you go back and fix them the next time you happen to be doing something with cash?
(I do this too; when I get change at a grocery store and I'm trying to get out, for example, I'll put the cash in unsorted, but will get around to sorting it back into order the next time I buy something or balance my wallet)

Yes, I do. Sometimes I will just take my wallet out while I'm seated near my purse and fix them for no reason other than to fix them.
What usually happens is that after a transaction, I just stuff everything into my wallet. Then, while I'm waiting to pay for whatever the next transaction is, I organize.
What, no secondary sort by serial number? (Don't worry, I don't...)

You mean everyone doesn't do these things? :-)
Brian just stuffs random bills randomly wadded into random pockets. It drives me bonkers.
If I'm in a hurry when getting chnage, I'll have put my wallet away before I get the change which will then get stuffed in a pocket. It'll get sorted into the wallet or spent eventually, but it does sometimes take a while.

I am (or at least used to be) pretty anal about my cash. It always goes into the wallet (though even that has started to slip a bit in the last few weeks). It used to get sorted every night: I'd enter the day's transactions into Quicken and scoop quarters out into a special cup for laundry purposes. I should get back into that, really...
My bf, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He stuffs $1 and $5 bills into pockets, and they end up in random places in his room (including the bed). He has a shoebox in a corner where he occasionally throws paper money, and a large bucket that's nearly full of change. It's soooooooo tempting to bring some coin rolling papers over one day....
