New toy!
A couple of weeks ago I got a new toy - a car! Now that I've driven it around a bit (including 1100 miles to Virginia and back), I've taken a few pictures and put them online.

I expect to be spending a lot of quality time with some sandpaper this summer.

!bondo

having read your webpage... I highly recommend against using Bondo. the annoying thing about bondo is that bondo absorbs water. this causes new rust to form under the bondo. what started as a small rust hole on Ecco that I put bondo over has turned into a large section of a rear wheel well that is all rusted out in only a couple of years. My new approach, which I have tried some of on Syren, is to use POR-15 to seal the rust and then Epoxy Putty to fill the holes, sold by Resto-Motive Laboratories (http://www.por15.com/). Probably more expensive that Bondo, but in my opinion well worth it. And epoxy-putty is so much easier to work with than Bondo because it takes longer to cure so you have greater working time and you can work it with your fingers.

Interesting. I haven't really figured out what I'm going to do about the larger rust spots yet; Bondo came to mind because it was what I used on the Datsun, and it's the Kleenex-like generic word for fiberglass car repair gunk. I'll definitely research the seal-and-putty route.

A lot of the bullet points make it sound an awful lot like you bought a motorcycle (easy to park, good mileage, no stereo...) Happily, none of the rust on my Bandit is (I hope) more than cosmetic at this point. After I get it back from its tuneup I should apply some touch-up...

Well, most of my reasons for owning this car are recreational rather than practical... including the recreational aspect of working on it. That seems to match up with many of the motorcycle owners I know.

Well...most people I know who own motorcycles also own cars; there are a few exceptions. I got my bike on the theory that it would both be more practical than total reliance on public transit and more fun than a car.
