(This is the stove at the house in Arlington. The one on this side of the pond is electric-coil and crappy.)

I hates my electric stove. I hates it. My parents have a natural gas stove in their Cohasset house and a propane stove in their Plainfield house.

I don't know for sure if it's electric or a pilot. It makes clicking noises... Does that indicate one way or the other?

Clicking noises is electric ignition (some kind of spark generator or piezo)

A gas stove is on my short list of must-have features for an apartment.

It was on mine, too, until we started at looking at places out here in Amherst and found that they only existed in about one in six places, and eliminated far too many locations. We got lucky with this place; they just converted the heat from oil to gas, so there was gas to the house and they were willing to let me buy and have a stove installed. I will need to figure out what to do with it when I move, though.

There are good and bad gas stoves, though. My little Manhattan apartment had a tiny gas stove (that part was OK, it was a tiny apartment) but it cooked SO SLOWLY. And the stove at my parents' summer place is equally lame. My current apartment has a normal gas stove, which is great. While I'd rather have a good gas stove than electric, any day, I'd rather have electric than a crappy gas stove.

Also, I've been told that electric stoves tend to put out more heat than all but the really spiffy professional gas stoves, but I don't know if that's still true.

Its too bad the poll didn't include what type of stove you would LIKE to have. I have an electric, and I hate it with a passion. Want a gas stove.
